Bergeron shelved for 15 days

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - The Montreal Expos placed outfielder Peter Bergeron on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a right rib strain.

The move is retroactive to April 19 -- one day after colliding at second base during a 5-4 loss at Philadelphia. Bergeron is batting .214 with one RBI in 11 games this season.

Bergeron, 26, hit .251 with five homers and 47 RBI in 141 games last year.

In a related move, Montreal recalled outfielder Endy Chavez from Triple-A Edmonton. Chavez is expected to join the team Friday for Montreal's home opener against the Phillies.
