Thoughts on Jon Lieber

I've got him on my DL, but he's coming back in the near future. Personally I feel that he will struggle this year in the bright lights of NYC and fresh off T.J. surgery. What are your opinions/expectations/projections on Jon Lieber?

I never really saw him as a big deal to begin with. Yeah, he had that 20 win year with the Cubs (next highest win total=12). But his career ERA is 4.18 and he's not exactly dominant. Combine that with TJ surgery and you have an overhyped sleeper. The better bet for a DLed pitcher is AJ Burnett, who was a K/IP guy to begin with and still on the better side of 30 (27, I think).

I feel Lieber is a better option than Burnett, though I don't feel that either will live up to expectations, IMO.

Lieber is worth a try if he performs after returning. Might be better choices for you DL out there though...

I currently have him in my DL spot. It's looking like he will return in just a couple weeks. I have to disagree with the overrated comment. That's true if the general consensus is that he will win the Cy Young this year but I'm not hearing anything like that. The guy did win 20 games in '01.
