power behind the plate (answered)

Okay, here's a fairly easy one. A hanging curve, if you will. First one to step up to the plate gets to knock it onto Waveland Avenue.

What player holds the record for most home runs by a catcher? For a bonus point, name both: a) the year he set the record, and b) the number of homers he hit that year.

Fisk didn't play in 1994. :-t

Anyway, the most he hit was 37, not enough for the record. He technically doesn't even hold the AL record for HR's by a catcher, as he played 28 games at DH, and hit some of his homers there.

Todd Hundley hit 40 I believe, and I'll guess the year was 1995

It must've been in 94 then. It was I think 2 years before Piazza came to town. He slumped the next year then pouted when the Mets got a real hitting catcher. For some reason, 44 comes to mind.

Well at least I don't feel quite so stupid now, I was thinking lifetime HR's not single season. I guess I just read it wrong and now my knees hurt too. :~( Any idea how many times BO broke a bat over his knee? Come to think of it, I seem to remember Jim Rice breaking a bat checking his swing one time?

Oh, I'm sorry... that was really not clear in the question. Sorry about that. Carlton Fisk *does* hold the record for lifetime HR's by a catcher, with Johnny Bench holding the NL record.
