Blalock intentionally walked?

Postby Baseballer02 » Wed Apr 21, 2004 11:30 pm

Yahoo just showed that Blalock was intentionally walked, with Soriano now coming up to bat. Surely that can't be right, right? 8-o

It makes sense. First base was open so they can get the force at 2nd now, and Blalock destroys righties. I'd take my chances with Soriano.

It was 2 outs, so walking for a force out at second would've been pointless. Soriano stuck out anyhow, so it worked.

Not pointless at all. Sets up a force at second or third. Number of outs is of no consequence. Use the open base to pitch around one guy and get a potentially better matchup.
