Roberts is on pace for 150 SB's. Thomas is a power hitting 1B who has a bad BA and isn't getting any younger. Let's see, who is easier to replace
1B's like him are a dime a dozen. Nobody is stealing as many bases as Roberts. Seems like a good move to me, especially if you need SB's. There's a point when name recognition no longer keeps a struggling player's value afloat.
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
I've been blowing this guy up for a while...I predicted 80-90 SB's and most people laughed, but I think it's genuinely possible...as long as he's healthy. Tracy enjoys manufacturing runs and Roberts has the proverbial Green Light. He's ridiculously fast and has Maury Wills as a mentor. Pick him up if you've got room.
Actually, he's batting .279 which is right in line with what he should do all season IMO. And the walks he's drawing are a bonus, because most of the time walks lead to SB attempts, unless somebody is ahead of him. OBA is the stat you want to correlate with SB's, not BA. And his OBA is great so far, as are his SB's. I like what I see
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
the getting on base aspect has been his only issue, with mediocre averages, walk and hit totals. but if he can improve on those areas just a bit as he has so far, than a season like two years ago could be happening for him, with possibly even more steals.
