Yes, he is. I can't remember the exact circumstances, but Romero got a save about a week ago in a wierd situation. But Looper is still the guy.

Romero is on the Twins (and he got his save by coming on in the 8th with runners on). The Mets don't have any pitcher named Romero.

You're right. My bad. I was thinking of MORENO. But my point is the same. I talked to a few people that saw Moreno get the save a week ago and thought Looper had lost his job....

I think Moreno had a very real chance of taken Looper's job coming into the season but Looper has been a pleasant surprise. He's making a believer out of me anyway and it's doubtful he'd lose it now.
Then again since Howe thinks it's wise to bench our young first basemen/catcher to get Zeile's "hot" bat in the lineup, who the $%#& knows. Sometimes it's very frustrating being a Mets fan.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
Moreno isn't really spoken of as being our closer of the future. The popular opinion in New York is that Looper is keeping the closer spot warm for Royce Ring, who should be major league ready by next year.
