Vogelsong tipping pitches??

Postby The Indestructible » Wed Apr 21, 2004 9:59 pm

From Rotoworld:

Ryan Vogelsong might have been tipping his pitches while getting shelled by the Cubs in his last two starts.

Vogelsong was told in a phone call Wednesday -- he wouldn't say who called -- that the Cubs knew what was coming as he gave up 19 hits and 15 earned runs over eight innings in the consecutive losses. ``I can think of a couple of things off the top of my head that it is, but I'm not sure,'' Vogelsong said. ``I'm going to have to look at the tape and see what it is.''

How does this change your opinion of him?

I'd agree, its a good thing.

Its much easier to correct tipping pitches than it is to correct control problems or having crappy stuff.

i guess that's encouraging, but with the shellackings he took im not sure tipping pitches is his only problem.

I'm hanging onto him, the guy has solid stuff.

Watching his last two outings vs. the Cubs, the guy has too good of stuff to have gotten hit that hard. I believe he was tipping his pitches.

You guys actually buy this garbage? I've heard the "tipping pitches" excuse a zillion times, and that's all it is...an excuse, and a pretty feeble one at that. He's getting lit up because he has no command. Throw the ball down the middle of the plate, and it will get hit by major leaguers. Hit very hard.

I wrote here last week that Vogelsong is a bit of a head case who has a tendency to come unhinged when things go awry, and the he should be avoided. In other words, he's Jeff Weaver.

Stay away from him and you'll have nothing to worry about.

I don't hear the "tipping pitches" excuse very often.

I haven't heard this excuse very often either, so i'm going to try to show some patience and hold on to Vogelsong for another start or two. In fact, the last time I heard of a pitcher tipping pitches was Vicente Padilla last year. After discovering this and changing his delivery Padilla was much more effective, so i'm going to wait and see whether this news helps Vogelsong or not.
