I'm one of Beltran's biggest supporters, but it's tough to pass up on that offer. I'd probably do it, depending on who my 2B was. If it was a top 6 2B, I wouldn't do it. If I had a guy like Durham or Kennedy, I'd probably do it. With the way Beltran has started (looking like the first 50-50 player) you might be able to get another upgrade along with Soriano. Such as: your 2B and Beltran for Soriano and a good OF to replace Beltran.

id do it especially considering you have loretta at 2B and burrell sitting on your bench. if it was soriano who was off to the hot start with beltran playing mediocore, all the opinions would be on the other side.

Soriano is equivalent to Beltran at 2B. Now, your answer lies in this question: Are there more good outfielders or good second basemen?

Do it.

I wouldn't say equivalent.....Beltran will probably have a better BA, more SB's, and more runs. And HR could go Beltran's way as well. But Soriano plays 2B and that makes a big difference.

I'd take Beltran because this is his contract year.

Beltran had a better average by .17 last year (some, but not a ton) and Soriano is playing in a hitter's park. Currently (I know this isn't etched in stone) Soriano is leading the BA run, .343 to .315.

41-35 in favor of Beltran last year. Not a huge difference. Currently 6-3, again, not a huge difference. I'll give you the stolen bases, though.

I disagree with you here. Soriano has a better lineup around him, IE Blalock and Tex (injured now, yes). Close, though. Last year, 114-102 Soriano.

It could. But it won't.

That's correct.

Beltran has a much better SB% (one of the best in baseball actually) and had 6 more SBs last year in 20 less games. So far he has 6 and I'm pretty sure Beltran will have many more SB's than Soriano. As for runs, Beltran is scoring a ton (leading the majors). If he stays at 1st or 2nd in the order he'll easily score more than Soriano. He already has more than 3 times as many runs in the first month. Soriano had a few more last year in 20 more games, and in the best lineup in baseball. Add one of the best RBI guys in baseball to the Royals, take away the Yanks' lineup, add 20 games for Beltran and a hot start, and he runs away with runs.

As for HR's, I don't think Beltran can get to 40, but he's looking great power-wise so far. I'd say Soriano will probably get more, but I wouldn't count out Beltran.

But then that pesky 2B qualification comes into play, and evens it out.

On the surface, it does look as if Beltran is starting out hotter and will be a stronger player.

At the same time though, 2B is a scarce position AND Loretta is playing pretty well too. SO, once you land Soriano, you should be able to shop Loretta for another position somewhere else you need some beefing up so you will lose Beltran but gain Soriano and perhaps some bullpen help or another, beefier OF. That would be a win/ win for your team, particularly if you can spy out who might be short a 2B w/ something else you want in your league...I'd go for it!!
