a big inning (answered)

Postby EugeneStyles » Mon Jun 03, 2002 10:57 pm

Only 4 players in ML history have had 3 basehits in a single inning (my data for this only goes through 1999, but I don't believe it's been done since then anyway). One of them was George Stevens of the Boston Red Sox, in 1953. The other 3 all played for the same team and achieved the feat in the same inning of the same game.

Name the team and the year.

I know somewhere in the back of my mind this one is lurking. I the lopsided score category the white sox beat the pants off of someone (in the late 50's-early 60's?) with 28 or 29 runs with a bunch coming in one inning.

Nope, not the White Sox. This one was before the turn of the century.

On September 6, 1883, in Chicago, that city's White Stockings did in the seventh inning against Detroit. :-D

The final score was:
Detroit 6
Chicago 26 %-6

Accepted as answer by EugeneStyles on Fri Mar 14, 2003 9:34 am EST.

Jeez, man, this question has been sitting around for almost a year. I forget the answer. I'll check on it, but you're probably right. Sheesh. Dredging up the old ones!

Yeah, Zoob is right on this one. The Chicago White Stockings who were not the White Sox, but the Cubs, pulled the feat off in 1883. Since then, the Cubs as a team have only gotten 3 basehits in the same inning like once or twice. :-D
