I'd stay away from Franklin. The Mariners lost a lot of defense from last year and Franklin doesn't strike anyone out, so he needs a good outfield. Randy Winn has looked bad in center, especially compared to how good Mike Cameron was last year. Rich Aurilia isn't a good glove at short. Scott Spiezio has little experience at 3B. Franklin relies on his defense a lot, so he's risky with the downgrades the M's have from last year.
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'
