Houston, TX (Sports Network) - The Houston Astros Friday acquired relief pitcher Chad Harville from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for minor league hurler Kirk Saarloos.
The 27-year-old Harville, who was drafted in the second round of the June 1997 draft by Oakland, was 0-0 with a 3.38 earned run average in three relief appearances for the Athletics this season. In 42 games in parts of four major league seasons, Harville is 1-2 with a 5.62 ERA.
The Athletics sent minor leaguer Saarloos to Houston. The 24-year-old has an 0-2 mark with a 15.43 ERA in two starts for Triple-A New Orleans this season. Saarloos made his big league debut for the Astros in 2003 and finished with a 2-1 record and a 4.93 ERA in 36 appearances, including four starts.
