I saw the game on TV today also and I thought he looked good at times but ran out of gas. His fastball was usually around 92-93. He was up in the zone, but the ump was calling high strikes. He made KC's lefty, Aaron Guiel, look foolish. He did get rocked for 3 homers, which was unfortunate, as was the two runs that scored after he left the game. With a 7-2 lead, I thought he'd get that first W, but KC has a pretty good offense and Beltran's 3-run shot off a reliever gave Santana the no-decision.
Overall, though, Santana looks like he has good stuff and I'm not too worried about him, despite the poor start. I have Jeremy Affeldt on my staff, now there's somone to worry about...
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'
