Who should I drop?

Postby Mariners55 » Fri May 31, 2002 6:03 pm

I just completed a trade and now I have to drop one of these pitchers-

Odalis Perez, Josh Bekett, Carlos Hernandez

Which one should I drop?

Welcome, Mariners55! That's quite a dilemma... Obviously, if you can avoid dropping any of these guys outright, for instance by pulling off a two-for-one trade, that's the way to go.

Otherwise, it depends on the scoring, of course, but I'd lean toward dropping Hernandez. His control has looked a bit off recently, and the ballpark formerly known as Enron still scares me a bit. On the other hand, if Beckett's blisters are starting to worry you, dropping the young Marlin is also an option (unless it's a keeper league). I'm not too worried yet, but I'm hoping he spends some serious time soaking his fingers in pickle juice...

I'd say drop Hernandez, too, but all of these guys are worth a trade, unless you're in a 6 or 8 team league.

What's the deal with Beckett anyway? I have never hear of someone having so many problems with blisters! He had this last year, too! He's been pitching for what, 10 years? He hasn't been able to form calouses yet? Ridiculous!

I can handlle arm trouble, but blisters are too much.

As you can see, I have him on my roster too. :-o

More news on Beckett from the Sporting News:

Josh Beckett - P, Florida Marlins May 31 4:04pm
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Beckett was tipping off his pitches Wednesday night. Beckett apparently held his glove in a different position, so hitters could tell when he would throw a fastball or breaking pitch. Beckett blamed the shellacking on his poor pitch location.
Fantasy Spin: Tipping pitches, poor location, that pesky blister -- is it any wonder Beckett got rocked Wednesday?

That's good news! Rookie mistake. That won't happen again.

Good news indeed! Sometimes, it's easy to forget how young and inexperienced Beckett is...
