Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Minnesota Twins first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz left Thursday night's contest against the Cleveland Indians in the first inning after hurting his right ankle while running.
Mientkiewicz was injured when he was running out a ground ball and stepped on the foot of Indians' starting pitcher Jason Stanford, who was covering first.
It appeared that Mientkiewicz either twisted or rolled his ankle on the inning-ending double play. He laid on the ground for a few minutes in discomfort before being helped to the dugout.
Jose Offerman replaced him at first.
Mientkiewicz was taken to a local hospital for x-rays.
