My First Fantasy Baseball game . Am I screwed ?

Postby SacTown » Sun Mar 16, 2003 10:08 pm

Hello abd thank you in advance for any advice / critique you may have. I just drafted my team using information garnered from this site and others. I drafted in the 6th position out of 12 . As this is my first draft I was VERY intimidated. If I get a .500 season I'd be thrilled in my first attempt. And now without further ado , here is my team.

1. Soriano, Alfonso (2B-NYY)
2. Zito, Barry (SP-Oak)
3. Suzuki, Ichiro (RF-Sea)
4. Hudson, Tim (SP-Oak)
5. Burrell, Pat (LF-Phi)
6. Jones, Andruw (CF-Atl)
7. Boone, Aaron (3B, SS-Cin)
8. Prior, Mark (SP-ChC)
9. Dunn, Adam (LF, 1B, RF-Cin)
10. Pineiro, Joel (SP, RP-Sea)
11. Rollins, Jimmy (SS-Phi)
12. Johnson, Charles (C-Col)
13. Erstad, Darin (CF-Ana)
14. Kim, Byung-Hyun (RP-Ari)
15. Lawrence, Brian (SP-SD)
16. Milton, EricDL (SP-Min) <img src=/forums/images/smiles/kiss.gif> DL !! I didn't know :-C
17. Pierre, Juan (CF-Fla)
18. Phelps, Josh (DH-Tor) I am VERY unsure of this . :-o
19. Moss, Damian (SP-SF)
20. Giambi, Jeremy (LF, 1B, RF-Bos)
21. Beltre, Adrian (3B-LA)

A.> Now , I THINK I may be RP challenged . Is this the case ?

B.> I decided , as I do in Fantasy Football , to gamble on one player .. in this draft it was Charles Johnson .. his numbers haven't been great the last few years , but he USED to be a power guy .. and I think Colorados thin air will make him a viable hitter again. At the least he is a competent catcher. Is this gamble worth it ?

C.> I took #20 and 21 for thier value at that pick , and trade options < I hope >

Thats it .. SacTown 2003 has launched ..

You did do pretty well. You are relief challenged but you seem to have the materials to trade to get help.Your starting pitching is fine especially if the converted reliever Byung racks up quality starts and k's.Your position players are fine with some positional options. We don't know how scoring in your league is done but if you can sacrifice steals I would put Pierre,Phelps,Moss,Pinero and Beltre (keep the rest) in packages to upgrade your outfield and aquire a couple of relief pitchers. After that you are good to go.A 500 season should be easy with this line up if you fill the wholes and don't get swindled out of your studs (Zito,Hudson,Prior,Soriano,Burrell,Dunn and Ichiro)...Good luck
