Rockies' Wilson faces knee surgery

Postby WebHamster » Thu Apr 15, 2004 3:00 am

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Colorado Rockies centerfielder Preston Wilson will undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee.

Wilson, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list, is sidelined indefinitely. Last year's National League RBI leader experienced discomfort in his left knee throughout most of spring training.

He started to experience more swelling over the past week, and was kept out of the starting lineup for the team's last three games.

Wilson is 5-for-18 on the young season with three runs batted in. In 2003, Wilson batted .282 with 36 homers and a career-best 141 RBI in his first season with the Rockies.

Colorado is already without the services of starting rightfielder Larry Walker, who has yet to appear in a game this season due to a strained left groin.

CBS is reporting he may only miss a month. This sounds very optimistic anyone else hear anything?

I've heard he'll be out 4-6 weeks. Arthroscopic surgery can have a recovery that quick, depending on the procedure. They don't typically know the length of the recovery until after the procedure is over. But with a meniscus tear, they can have you off crutches in as little as 2-3 days.
