I saw him pitch a lot last year and i went to the game today and saw him...............
He has very bad control problems and the whitesox hitters frequently got good pitches to hit when they were strikes.........
I wasnt as high on him as many for this year but he still has stuff and if he can somehow LIMIT his control problems, he will have a descent season...........
Is he a head case like Freddy Garcia has been at times? I was following the game on the CBS tracker, and he seemed to be doing fine until the 3rd inning. Then he gave up a lead-off double, had a fielding error, and a wild pitch. Does he just get rattled easily?
From what I could tell he was crusing along for the first couple of innings and then found trouble quick and it lasted.
This will happen often with young pitchers. Too bad there is a lack of Vet pitchers on this staff as I think he could use a wilely Vet to settle him down a bit.
Affeldt will come back. His first start was a fluke, and this start was against a hot CWS lineup which hits lefties better than any team in the league. Check out the split stats of their sluggers against lefties, it's crazy. Also, for what it's worth, it was an away game. I am giving him at least 3 more starts to have a good one....that way I can say I waited 5 starts. If not by then, he's gone.

Yeah, afterall, no pitcher has ever succeeded in the majors after having 2 bad starts in a row!
I wasn't that big on him either, but I wouldn't drop him for some proven average pitcher.
I keyed on Harden and Jackson as my young guys. Neither made the cut, but I haven't bailed on them yet. I guess that is why I feel I almost have to start Harden. I haven't been burned yet by the young arm cuz I haven't really started one.
I just don't think you cut that early on a guy unless there is an injury issue or there is a legitimately better option out there. Other than Harden and Jackson, I'm not really that sold on any young guy in particular. One guy I did grab recently was John Patterson (dump A Lopez - I was wrong there). Pattterson used to pitch for the D Backs, now is on Montreal. If you sort by season average instead of season totals for the season he is the #2 ranked player. Yes it is one game, but he was always expected to be good. There's worse picks out there.
Give your young guys a bit of a chance until you see a clearly better option, even if you bench them for a bit for roto players. H2H guys he's not a week to week keeper.
Another reason I don't really care for H2H. You can't afford to let a guy sit.
