Graves or Urbina

Postby ramble2 » Wed Apr 14, 2004 7:12 pm

Just out of curiousity, which do you like better? I like both a lot for this year.

Urbina (was) a cheap source of saves, as was Graves. Urbina will benefit from pitching in the cavern they call Comerica, despite his late start. Graves is a risk to get traded, but who knows.

Any other thoughts on these two?

Graves

Graves is on FI-YA right now and should keep getting saves. Urbina will need a few games to get back into the groove. Both should have a shot at around 30 saves but Urbina will have more Ks. Expect both of them to have ERAs over 3.50.

Funny that you mentioned Graves could get traded. I feel the same way about Urbina. Detroit figured they would be out of contention again this year, so they signed Urbina with the intention of trading him to a contender at the trade dealine for some prospects. Now that Detroit is off to a hot start, maybe they will keep him.

I look for both of them to be traded before the year is over...but to start...when UU gets back, he should have a few more K's and a little lower ERA and WHIP...Graves worries me a little pitching in the park he does....but for cheap saves...both are good options... :-)

Graves will prolly get traded to a team which will use him as a set-up guy and Urbina IMO is much better... theres little comparision- Urbina can be dominant whereas Graves at best is above average and reliable... the only disadvantage Urbina has is the late start... but still Urbina will end up more Ks
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.
