I'm in Canada and not really up to speed on American politics and politicians but an amazing fact was recently brought to my attention.
George W. Bush has been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol and his running mate, Dick Cheney, has been convicted of the same criminal offence twice!
I'm usually not one to pass judgment on others, however, my best friend was killed by a drunk driver years ago and I have three comments to make about this situation:
1) The act of driving under the influence shows extremely poor judgment and that Bush is neither cautious nor considerate;
2) With his record it is hypocritical for him to say that he is bringing morality back to America; and
3) I am against campaigns run on personality and character as opposed to the issues but how can people with such serious criminal offences on their records run for public office let alone the highest office in the land?
Is anybody else surprised that these offences are not common knowledge and that they managed to get elected in the first place?
