12 Team Yahoo Roto Auction

Standard Yahoo Roto Auction League - 5x5 c,1b,2b,3b,ss,3of,2util,2sp,2rp,4p,5bn and a 1400ip cap.

Never did auctions before this year so it took a few drafts before I got a team I really liked. Didn't set out to do a $1 pitching staff but I knew based on the rankings I used for this draft and the values I'd seen in the first 3 drafts that it was a possibility and I knew enough $1 pitchers I liked that I was ok if it came out that way. Here's the team as I drafted it:

Mike Trout (ANA-OF) Pick 1 Price $61
Troy Tulowitzki (COL-SS) Pick 10 Price $32
Jose Altuve (HOU-2B) Pick 21 Price $39
Yasiel Puig (LA-OF) Pick 25 Price $36
Bryce Harper (WAS-OF) Pick 42 Price $28
Adrian Gonzalez (LA-1B) Pick 43 Price $27
Kris Bryant (CHI-N-3B) Pick 80 Price $9
Chris Davis (BAL-UT) Pick 84 Price $12
Drew Pomeranz (OAK-R) Pick 109 Price $1
Brian McCann (NY-A-C) Pick 175 Price $2
Wade Davis (KC-RP) Pick 181 Price $1
Melky Cabrera (CHI-A-UT) Pick 192 Price $1
Francisco Rodriguez (MIL-RP) Pick 202 Price $1
Gregory Polanco (PIT-R) Pick 214 Price $1
Joc Pederson (LA-R) Pick 215 Price $1
Michael Pineda (NY-A-SP) Pick 216 Price $1
Danny Duffy (KC-SP) Pick 217 Price $1
Addison Reed (AZ-P) Pick 218 Price $1
Brett Cecil (TOR-P) Pick 219 Price $1
Chad Qualls (HOU-P) Pick 220 Price $1
Kevin Quackenbush (SD-P) Pick 221 Price $1
Kyle Hendricks (CHI-N-R) Pick 222 Price $1
Jason Hammel (CHI-N-R) Pick 223 Price $1

Here it is in roster format:

I was thrilled with the outcome on the pitching staff. By the rankings I had I'm sitting around league average in the ratios, my strikeout ratio looks solid and I'll supplement my innings pitched which project to the mid-1200's by either trading for a pitcher or picking up guys with great matchups off the FA list which shouldn't hurt those ratios much if I pick up decent guys. Wins project out slightly below average but again, those streaming starting pitchers will help there. What really shocked me is that I project for 2nd place in saves with a pitching staff made up of $1 pitchers.

On the hitting end I'll probably need to drop Quackenbush just to make room to pick up guys to fill in on off-days as I only have 3 bench hitters at the moment. That lack of bench depth leads me to project a bit lower in runs/rbi's (middle of the pack there) than the core of this team hitting would normally support, but that's fixed easily by picking up fill-ins for those off-days. Team batting average projects for 3rd in the league though, steals for 4th, and home runs for 3rd, so with some nice fill-ins those should push even higher. Overall the team projected 3rd in the league.

I'm a fan of how you handled your draft. You have the offensive assets necessary to make a deal for pitching in season. And I'm a sucker for finding pitching off the waiver wire, as you seem to be planning to do.

I'm really leaning toward just streaming pitchers whenever there's a juicy match-up and then using that same roster slot on Mondays/Thursdays to pick up a hitter to fill in for a guy on an off-day to prevent falling too far behind max games played at each position. I'd have to cut Quackenbush or Qualls (depending on the closer outcome in Houston) but not a big loss either way to have that flexibility.
