If you have an empty roster spot, give Contreras a shot.

However, he's currently not starting or closing for the Yankees, and has never pitched in a major league game. Who knows how he'll do as a starter, and with the Yankees' pitching depth, it may be a while before we find out.

Scouts say he has a big league Change up and Slider plus a 96MPH fastball all with great control. He struggled in Spring Training but So did Ishii last year and he had a very good 1st half (although the 2nd half was a whole other story.) and Ishii didn't have half the afore mentioned skills as Contreras does, i dont think its a matter if he cracks the rotation but when.

He's been dominant his last two outings.

10.2IP 2W 1ER 11K/2BB 6H

.84ERA .75WHIP

Hope he does something valuable during the season 'cause I got him on my bench, hehe.

Their was a very good article under the MLB section on ESPN about Cuban pitchers and it went indepth about Contreras, from what i hear even with all his early struggles the consencise is still he is a top of the rotation starter.

It's crazy that the scouts believe he has top of the rotation stuff and then he would go and sign with the Yankees to pitch in the bullpen. Wouldn't you rather sign with someone who would guarantee you a spot in the rotation which would give you a shot at Major League stardom?

I guess it's nice to rot in the bullpen and collect a paycheck and hope for a World Series ring ...

part of what the article said was that many Cuban Pitchers feel they have accomplished enough by just getting out of Cuba, for a lot of them collecting that pay check is what it is all about.
