How did I do? Roto Auction

Postby Gmunu » Wed Mar 11, 2015 11:35 pm

:-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ I have not been into Roto leagues and have only done one auction league. This was just a MOCK and not a real draft but I think I did OK with the exception of Saves It was a 10 team, Standard 5 X 5 format. Did I do alright? I went with the Studs and duds approach.

C- Carlos Santana (Cle - C,1B,3B) $20
1B- Miguel Cabrera (Det - 1B,3B) $51
2B- José Altuve (Hou - 2B) $32
SS- Starlin Castro (ChC - SS) $5
3B- Xander Bogaerts (Bos - 3B,SS) $1 or Casey McGehee (SF - 3B) $1
OF- Mike Trout (LAA - OF) $53
OF- Jacoby Ellsbury (NYY - OF) $27
OF- Adam Eaton (CWS - OF) $1
Util- Michael Cuddyer (NYM - 1B,OF) $1 or Danny Santana (Min - SS,OF) $4
Bench- Matt Wieters (Bal - C) $1 along with D. Santana and McGehee
SP- Julio Teherán (Atl - SP) $15
SP- David Price (Det - SP) $28
SP- Collin McHugh (Hou - SP) $2
SP- Alex Cobb (TB - SP) $14
SP- Michael Wacha (StL - SP) $2
SP- Michael Pineda (NYY - SP) $2
SP- Derek Holland (Tex - SP) $2
SP- José Fernández (Mia - SP) $1
RP- Zach Britton (Bal - RP) $5
RP- Santiago Casilla (SF - RP) $1
RP- Joe Nathan (Det - RP) $1

I tried to get a good mix of Power, Average, and speed and think I did OK with that. Does anyone have suggestions before I try this for real?

No comments? I really want ideas as to whether you think that I did well or not with the mock. I know that my hitters are good but did I spend too much there? Should I have gone another direction in a roto league?

I wouldn't expect to get Miguel Cabrera that cheap in a real auction, but otherwise, your roster is solid. In a 10-team league I really like the stars and scrubs approach since the level of talent among the scrubs is higher than in large leagues.

Oops! The $ figure behind Miggy should have read $51 and not $4. Copy paste error.

Honestly I can find very little to complain about here. I love the $104 on Miggy and Trout. That's a great way to start a team and I do question if they'll come that cheaply in a typical 10-team league where everyone will realize that $1 players will still be good. Speaking of those $1 players I love pretty much all the guys you got at that price. Jose Fernandez especially. Teams will pay more than $1 for a quality MR that gives good ratios and racks up k's. Why not few Fernandez that way, as he's likely to deliver at least a MR level of IP this year.

This is a nice team. You definitely had the right idea to do stars and "scrubs" with the idea that even your cheap players will be solid. You will have to be mindful on the WW to keep up with saves (I dont like Nathan at all this year) but I dig that strategy. What I like most is many of your cheap players have upside. Xander, Castro, Eaton, Pineda, Fernandez can all outperform their draft price exponentially, and that's how you win leagues.

take a look at mine if you get a chance: viewtopic.php?t=490855
