Fair trade??

Postby Prime Time » Sat Mar 15, 2003 10:36 pm

10 team league, 5x5 mixed.

I am getting Marrero, B. Boone & M. Rivera for D.Wilson, Soriano & Encarnacion. I do not have any closers on my team and am trying to add a couple decent ones through trade. Is this a legit trade or am I being played for a sucker?

You should start the talking at Rivera and Boone for Soriano. Forget about the rest ofthem. I'm not saying I would definitely do the trade if I was the guy getting Soriano, but that's what he's worth. It would take a lot for me to give up Soriano, and I damn sure wouldn't throw in too many other people!

If you look a little closer, the "other people" being thrown in amount to an upgrade at catcher for the guy giving up Soriano. It kinda depends on whether you need Encarnacion. If he's like your 4th or 5th outfielder (which seems likely), then you don't lose anything by throwing him in. Which means you upgrade Wilson to Marerro (much better), downgrade Soriano to Boone (much worse, but Boone is still good), and lose a bench player to get Mariano Rivera. Not really a bad trade. I'm not sure I'd do it if I were you, but it's reasonable. I don't think I would do the trade if I was giving up Soriano straight up for Boone and Rivera.

Apparently we all missed this part. Both Soriano and Encarnacion will contribute to 50% of our "game". Marrero is a nice idea at catcher since he will a ton of AB's early, But not in a package for a closer. A person who contributes to 1 category. Thats a minus nine on the production scale by your limited roster spots. There has got to be someone... or two in your league that picked up 4 closers or even 3. Talk to them.
With only 10 teams mixed all of the teams are basically ALL- STAR teams. Saves should be cheap.

Looks to me like you are bending over and spreading your butt-cheeks apart waiting for this guy to screw you.

Marerro and Boone aren't big enough ugrades. Rivera is coming back from injury, and is a question mark. Soriano is a top 5 pick. Boone and Rivera aren't even top 50 picks. Marerro is a hundred picks later.

Ugly, season crushing trade.
