Look, it was nice, but the wall-to-wall coverage was annoying. Let's move onto other teams, eh? So much good baseball, and it's not all out in the Bay.
I'm back. Sorta.

Do not boo Johnny.

But I like seeing the at-bats live...I mean hey, this is history we are watching and we're complaining? 30 years from now our kids will be asking us about Barry Bonds, and unless you live in SF, it's hard to really get to see him play. I like the extra coverage of his at-bats....just a little less analysis would be fine by me.

Well put and I agree. ;-D

Show the at bats? Yes. ;-D It will be nice to say 30 years from now that I witnessed history being made.

Take 20 minutes of the 1 hour Sportscenter? That's a bit much for my taste.

I agree with those who pointed out that it's just the beginning though. There will be tons more coverage of Bonds as he keeps hitting them out.

As to his interview, he actually seemed really down to Earth and happy. If he can continue to show that kind of honesty and fun, then maybe he will finally shake the bad rep the media portrays him as having.

Oh yeah, and most of you know, but for those who don't: I'm not really a fan of Bonds but I'm not getting into that again.

Props on the milestone Barry. Congrats. ;-D

It has been 4 years of non stop Barry coverage and it's just going to get worse and worse. I'm going to change the channel on every homer he hits from here on out. He'll always be a cheater in my mind and him breaking records will do nothing for me except have to erase his name out of the new baseball books I buy.

chill Raw Dawg....what happened, Bonds steal your girlfriend or something? Sheesh.

You guys are watching history, the same kind of history that your grandfathers watched, and your fathers after that. If you cant appreciate it, at least quit bitchin about it.
The rest of us want to work on our stories for our grandkids.

I think this whole Barry Bonds attention debate hinges of one thing, and I would assert that Bonds started it....the word is RACE

When he starts talking sh-- on Babe and says that as long as he passes Ruth then all is well, and he isnt as motivated to pass Aaron {Paraphrased}, I wanted to shoot him....I really think this thing is racial to Bonds, and to America.

Look at the person's previous comment on Phil Mickelson/Masters...I would much rather watch Phil humbly accept his green jacket. Any white person I know doesnt care about Bonds. The steroids he takes and the fact that he made this a racially charged thing, just disgust most people, blacks and white's, but mostly whites.....lets face it, he is a cheater until he goes and takes a test, and he has already showed himself to be somewhat racist with the Ruth comments

Yet, for some God-awful reason ESPN has seen to it they give this cheater whatever he wants in terms of attention....I would rather see them talk 20 minutes about the humility of some athletes instead of giving individual attention to people who just care about themselves and making people who they represent look like jerks....I am here making reference to guys like, Keyshawn Johnson, Chad Johnson, Barry Bonds, Joe Horn, Terrell Owens.

Man put some people like Tony Gwynn, Curt Schilling, Mike Sweeney, Randy Johnson, Mike Piazza, guys like that on ESPN and tell their stories and let people witness their humility.

I am not a racist, but when Bonds starts making it racial, I tend to make it that on my terms....not against baacks, per se, but against arrogant, money-grabbing, attention-grabbing, cocky, racially-driven people, who cant just play ball and be humble about their accomplishments.

Compare Phil Mickelson and Barry Bonds, and then see if you dont agree, look at the way they handle success.

Hopefully this doesnt get me kicked out of here, but I really had to say this, because it seems as if no one in America wants to realize it.

Gotta disagree with you there. My grandfather may have seen a highlight of history in a grainey video on the news - but very few people actually saw history being made - rather they read or heard about it. Todays innundation of Bondsball is also history making if you ask me.

Grandpa Cornbread, tell us where you were when Bonds hit his famous HR.

"I was trying to mind my own business, but it was everywhere - on every channel, on every website, on every billboard, on every radio station, on everything that could send out the message. If you didnt know better, you would think that there was only one player in baseball at the time."

Now that would be sweet!!

And they will never catch him. Even if he does pee in a cup. He's off THG now. He's on to a more advanced steriod that wont be detectable until someone else brings in a syringe with it in it. He'll never get caught. He'll always be ahead of the game and by the time they catch up with testing Bonds will be long retired. Bonds would have to be a complete moron to get caught. Of course I'm not putting that past him.

kcbelieves, I see your point, but I have to disagree. When he said he only wanted to pass Ruth and not Aaron was a little misinterpreted. He also said, he wanted to be known as the best left-handed power hitter of all time. But, further that that, who do people always talk about when talk about hr's....Babe Ruth. He thinks that if he passes Ruth, people may stop talking about Ruth. Which, b/c of the circumstances, and the steroid rumors, they won't. And, for your information, I am white, and Bonds isn't my favorite player, but I respect him a hell of alot.

And, what's the difference between Phil humbly accepting his green jacket, or Bonds humbly accepting his MVP trophy. AND, if you watched the press conference after he seemed quite humble. I'm not saying Bonds is a saint, but I think people mistake his shyness a little bit for arrogance. You can see when he's being interviewed he's not comfortable.

And I don't think your racist, but the people you mentioned you didn't want to see on ESPN are all African Americans, and all the one's you mentioned you wanted to see were white. I love Curt Schilling, but he is NOT a humble guy. He speaks his mind just as much as Keyshawn or TO does. Atleast add Dontrelle, and LT2 to that list of humble guys to show your not discriminating.

This post will probably be locked b/c it is a VERY touchy subject, and hard to discuss on a forum since some people can post rascist ideas without being held accountable.

P.S.- Somehow passed over Tony Gwynn on your list, but you see my point.

Just as an aside: we generally don't lock threads because they deal with touchy subjects, only if they start devolving into flame wars. Race has been talked about in the past, and the folks involved made sure the discussion stayed constructive.

Personally, I think the fact that the issue of race has crept into the home run chase is pretty sad, particularly since it involves Ruth. The Bambino had to deal with racist slurs, too...
