This is something that I always struggle with when trying to compare players in different positions, especially if they are unproven and are not absolute studs. Basically I want to know who players I list compare equally with, and why:
Beltre
Crede
Which SS or soon-to-be SS would be equal with these two guys? In short, if I were to try and trade them later in the season, who could I get for them?
I don't get it. Shortstop, or soon to be shortstop? Beltre could be nice, maybe even Crede could, who knows, but no-one is going to grade you a Tejada for two third basemen who are, currently, mediocre at best. Are you saying that one of THEM is a soon to be ss? Or looking for another player that will soon be a ss that you may be able to trade them for? Maybe you can deal one or both of those guys for K.Matsui...or something...
I understand completely that I could never get Tejada that way, but it was a good way of getting some replies. (it worked, didnt it?) As for the soon-to-be SS thing, I meant someone like Michael Young who will soon gain SS elligibility after 15 games there. So which SS (current or soon-to-be) could I get for Beltre or Crede, or Beltre/Crede?
You could probably get an injured Jose Reyes for one of them, and then hope Reyes stays healthy once he comes back (which should be around the beginning or middle of May).
I don't really think those guys have a tremendous amount of value right now.
Crede has no trade value at all right now. He's never done well in the past, and he's not currently doing anything special. The daily double. Nobody is going to put him in their starting lineup unless they have no other choice.
So any trade you make would be for Beltre only. Because he's hot, you could possibly actually get someone to trade for him. However, as good as beltre is doing, he's still a free agent in both of my yahoo public leagues.
Unless you run into a stupid owner, I wouldn't attempt that trade for anyone except an injured Furcal, Rollins, Lugo, Cintron, one of the Alex Gonzalez's, or another mid to low tier shortstop.
