New York, NY (Sports Network) - Houston Astros outfielder Richard Hidalgo was named the National League Player of the Week Monday.
Hidalgo batted .500 (12-for-24) with two homers and nine RBI during the opening week of play. He scored six runs, had five multi-hit hits games, and compiled a .833 slugging percentage and .538 on-base percentage.
This is the second Player of the Week Award for Hidalgo. He also received the award in September of 2000.
Other players nominated include: Scott Rolen and Albert Pujols of St. Louis; Adrian Beltre and Paul Lo Duca of Los Angeles; Houston's Jeff Bagwell; Cincinnati's Adam Dunn; and Atlanta's Marcus Giles. Pitchers nominated include: Tom Glavine of the New York Mets; Shawn Estes of Colorado; and Kerry Wood of the Chicago Cubs.
