in the yahoo notes on Dotel (the little yellow note) it quotes Jimy Williams as saying he may begin to use Dotel in some situations where they're leading by four. These non-save situations will surely help him keep up his strikeouts for our purposes.

Dotel will notch over 30 saves with no problem.

Don't panic! It's early! ;-)

Funny thing about closers in non-save situations. They seem to always get beaten up.

Here I am coming out of one of my drafts with Smoltz and Dotel. I think I've got a nice 1-2 punch in the bullpen and will easily compete for the lead in saves. As of right now I'm last in the league with ezactly 0 saves. lol....Good thing it's only the first week.

In another league I had Smoltz and Izzy h2h facing his only closer (benitez). I'm thinking I've got the saves wrapped up. No problem. Funny things happen the first week. The funniest part though was Kolb and Herges were sitting on my bench.

I'm in the same boat with Dotel and Smoltz. Although, why no saves yet? Smoltz had 1 last week.

Umm, MOST closers used to be set-up men.

I think it's possible that Dotel will pitch in some non-save situations just to get regular work. He's pitched 97 and 87 innings the last two years, so I think Jimy Williams will try to keep him active. So far this year his use has been: pitched, 3 days off, pitched, 2 days off, pitched (today). None were save situations but he still needs regular work.
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'
