Go back a week, to before the season started, and ask yourself if you'd rather have Damon or Roberts. If the answer is a resounding Damon! (which it likely is), then don't drop Damon for Roberts after a week of games. Too early.
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'
i actually dropped jd Drew for Dave roberts tonight...but this is because i'm in a 10 team league so everyone's loaded in OF. We have Reggie sanders, jay payton, jose guillen, alou, etc..on the WW. So If you're in a smaller league and need steals while have the luxury of deep OF on WW then i say go for it....otherwise no.
I started the year with an injury to Nick Johnson and considered picking up a steals guy while Johnson was out, since that's my biggest offensive need. I didn't expect Dave Roberts to steal 7 bases in a week, though, so I didn't even consider him. I took Geoff Jenkins. If Johnson comes back in 2 weeks, it would have been a much better move to have Roberts' steals, but I wouldn't want to be stuck with Roberts all year because he would hurt me in so many other categories (HR, RBI, OBP, SLG).
