Is Dave Roberts worth dropping Damon for?

Postby rippz » Sun Apr 11, 2004 1:20 am

Roberts can steal more bases than anyone if he stays healthy and with 7 already he is making me want to pick him up pretty bad.

I have Damon I can drop for him but is 20 - 30 extra steals worth droping a 100run 10homer 30 steal guy?

agreed, Roberts is just too one dimensional to drop a multi-talented player like Damon

Go back a week, to before the season started, and ask yourself if you'd rather have Damon or Roberts. If the answer is a resounding Damon! (which it likely is), then don't drop Damon for Roberts after a week of games. Too early.

i actually dropped jd Drew for Dave roberts tonight...but this is because i'm in a 10 team league so everyone's loaded in OF. We have Reggie sanders, jay payton, jose guillen, alou, etc..on the WW. So If you're in a smaller league and need steals while have the luxury of deep OF on WW then i say go for it....otherwise no.

I started the year with an injury to Nick Johnson and considered picking up a steals guy while Johnson was out, since that's my biggest offensive need. I didn't expect Dave Roberts to steal 7 bases in a week, though, so I didn't even consider him. I took Geoff Jenkins. If Johnson comes back in 2 weeks, it would have been a much better move to have Roberts' steals, but I wouldn't want to be stuck with Roberts all year because he would hurt me in so many other categories (HR, RBI, OBP, SLG).

The guy stole 45 bases two years ago, and actually lost At Bats in the Dodgers' lineup. *ahem*

That's exactly why I drafted Sanchez but have yet to start him.

I would probably never drop anybody this early to pick up someone else, period (unless somebody dropped Damon to pick up Roberts). ;-)
