I just dropped Riske for Ligtenberg. I don't desperately need saves so I don't care if someone else picks him up.
I did nothing but talk this guy up pre-season and he's done nothing but screw me and my C.C. out of wins. I know it's only week 1, but there's just some things I can't stand for. Blowing a 3 run save opportunity when my SP has the W all locked up is one of them.
I think people are overreacting, especially when considering dropping Riske for guys like Lightenberg who may or may not have save opps. It's pretty doubtful that the Indians will give up on him yet after just two games, and he still has a very good chance of turning it around. Yes, I can see dropping him if there are other options like Baez, Nathan, Graves, etc in the free agent pool. But, in a typical 12 team league every MLB closer will be on a roster, so you can't really afford to drop him until he loses his job, if that even happens
No way I drop him but I just may bench him for awhile and see how he handles his next outing.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
I'm with JDH, and the only thing I'm worried about is if Riske loses the closer job. I have him in 2 leagues, but my ERA is horrible as is, so I guess it makes me calmer.
ok...seeing this stopped me from outright dropping Riske. I checked out his game log from last year and found this interesting:
in his first 4.1 innings last year, he gave up 6 ER.
So for now, I am going to bench him and see how he does in his next couple games....if he doesn't improve, ill kick him off the team. If he looks good and picks up a save or two, I'll put him back in my lineup. I don't want to give up on a possible closer so early, so I hope he turns it around
