The San Francisco Chronicle said catcher Benito Santiago is "playing with fire" by saying he'll play elsewhere in 2004 unless the Giants sign him to a contract extension by the end of spring training. Santiago's agent has approached the team about extending the two-year, $3.75 million contract that Santiago signed after the 2001 season. Santiago considers his $1.5 million salary for this year inadequate based on his performance last year.

This guy should be thanking his lucky stars that there are so few decent catchers in the league. Based on his four years previous to last year, if he played another position he would've been out of the league.
