Should I offer this trade Y or N WHIR

Postby birdbrains » Tue Aug 05, 2014 5:28 pm

Should I offer this trade?
I was going to offer Rondon and Pedro Alvarez for Jermy Mejia of the Mets
The attraction of Mejia is that this closer can be plugged in to a SP spot as my spots are all taken...
I can then have a spot for another Hold Guy where I currently have Brian Shaw by himself...I lose that categoty all the time

Alvarez has been reduced to a bench player for now and he is projected to be Pirates 1st baseman next year so there is some trade value and Mucija seems a slight upgrade over Rondon but that's irrelevant...as long as he isn't worse....the point is to put the closer in the SP position and open a roster spot for a hold guy I can pull from the waiver wire

Am I giving up too much?
Am I over thinking this one?
Should I offer it?
Am I better off having Alvarez bat on my roster?
THIS IS A KEEPER LEAGUE WHERE YOU GET TO KEEP 10 PLAYERS FOR THE NEXT YEAR...NO TIME LIMITS

I read today that Alvarez' fantasy value should go up a bit now that McCutcheon is sidelined... for what it's worth.

I'll give you two sides of the coin.

Plus:
I play in a holds league as well, so I definitely appreciate the reliever who can get plugged into the SP spot enabling an extra reliever. If you think making up ground in holds will be the key to success at this point in the season, then go for it. I don't see any of the parties involved in the trade as a keeper in a 10-player keeper league, so I think future seasons is irrelevant.

Downside:
I'm not sure Mejia finishes the year as the Mets closer. Their setup guys, Jeurys Familia (sp?) has better stats, a better arm. I also believe that the Mets will start to limit Mejia's innings, which is why they moved him to the bullpen in the first place.

So all-in-all, given that Rondon is not much to begin with, I make this trade. Alvarez is nice depth for this year if nothing else and you essentially get an extra holds guy too given the roster layout.

My only question is this if I do the trade then it leaves me with just two bench players who are really good but that's it. Is that enough with the roster I have.when Garza gets back from the DL.when that happens I will have to drop a player then and it probably will be Shaw so I will only be stuck with one Hold person anyway which essentially is not enough to win the category with 75% of the teams

I'm feeling "overpay" here. And it could be for closer who could lose his gig.

Yes I think you are correct it is an over pay. I made the decision to not offer that trade as.beckett will go on dl.that will open up a spot for a middle reliever that can get me holds. I need to have Prado..Norris and Alvarez on the bench so I have a bench.and all three are worthy of a roster spot as my issues have been withAlvarez being reduced to part time which is a shame since he is so talented and he has or should have trade value in a 10 player keeper league which Has 18 teams.
I am hoping he gets his job back this year
