Who am I? #2 (answered)

Postby Arlo » Mon May 27, 2002 3:40 pm

I began my career with the Colt 45's and ended it in Oakland. Neither of those stints were spectacular, but in between I was a vital cog in one of the dominant team's of the era. I won an mvp award every season I hit over .300, although I was known more for my patience at the plate than my bat, finishing my career with over 1800 walks. I did hit three world series homers, though.

I admit I got a clue to this answer watching a game the other day, but I think we are talking about former big red machiner now sportscaster Joe Morgan.

Doesn't matter where the inspiration came from (would've been awfully amusing if someone had figured out the HoJo question by driving by one... :-D ) - you got it!

Man... I had just thought about this question the other day when I saw Joe Morgan's name next to the number 1800 and the word walks. But then my mind moved on. ;-) Good job, chuck.

As for the HoJo question... that's why I resisted the urge to give my final hint... After about a week or two more, I would have mentioned that he once jokingly told an umpire who called him out on strikes that "you can't stay at my hotels anymore." I figured that woulda given it away pretty quickly.
