Second Half OPS increases

Postby jay » Thu Mar 13, 2003 9:12 pm

I've heard that looking at the difference between the first and second half OPS's are a good indicator for the next year.

Any truth to this?

:-B I find it usfull. I have Dunn down on my draft list this year because of his seond half collapse. I study it and look for trends. it never hurts. I am still looking for a sight that will give 3yr splits. If anybody knows one, please post.

Agreed, it doesn't hurt, but you can't just look at the overall numbers. Some players make a habit of starting slow and finishing up like a house on fire, while others are just the opposite.

If you find a good reason for this improvement, such as a change in mechanics, this can be a useful indicator, but if all a player did was clean up against other teams' call-ups, for instance, then you shouldn't let the numbers blind you to that...
