Should I trade my 1B for 3B?

Postby DutchySox » Mon Mar 17, 2014 10:28 am

Last night, my 12-team keeper league drafted. Due to lacking value around the 4th round, I picked Mark Trumbo to be my 1B. Luckily, I was able to snag Jose Abreu a few round later and V-Mart almost at the end, as I'm a little worried about Trumbo.

Because of all that, I missed out on a stud 3B. One guy auto-drafted and has three 3B on his roster (Beltre, Longoria and Arenado), with Lawrie playing 2B (also 3B eligible). He has one 1B: Billy Butler.

Should I try to trade Trumbo (+ something for Longoria), who is his UTIL? He also has a shitty outfield and no backups, so I could use Trumbo's double eligibility to maybe pull it off, but should I be worried about Longo too? Also, would Gyorko be enough power to just let this be?

As you can tell, I'm stacked at OF so I don't need Mark Trumbo there.

In short: use Trumbo to get an upgrade at 3B from a guy who has three 3B and a crappy 1B, or should I roll with Trumboner at first base and stick with Gyorko at 3B?

TEAM:
C - Wilin Rosario*
1B - Mark Trumbo
2B - Matt Carpenter*
3B - Jedd Gyorko
SS - Ian Desmond*
OF - Adam Jones
OF - Jay Bruce
OF - Wil Myers*
UT - Jose Abreu

BN - Xander Bogaerts
BN - Avisail Garcia
BN - Leonys Martin
BN - Victor Martinez
BN - George Springer

trumbo + ? may not be bad for longo here.

I would hold on to V.Mart as it looks like he will be C eligible soon than you have backup up for Rosario

My thoughts exactly (though I doubt he'll get catcher eligibility before -say- July or August.

I don't necessarily like Trumbo. Too many K's, crappy AVG (in a league that has AVG as a stat). Sure, he might hit a TON of HRs, but I could replace him with Abreu or Martinez and be fine if I'd get Longoria back, I'd think.

Leaves the conundrum: do I HAVE to? Isn't Gyorko a good enough alternative?

Or maybe Carp and Trumbo for an elite power bat for 3b maybe Longoria would work you gotta pay up.
Gyorko is great for 2b.

Trumbo for Longo would be nice but I like your team as is. It looks strong and Gyorko will give you enough power from the 3B position that you need. I would stay put for now.

I agree that I might have to pony up some value for Longoria, but Carpenter + Trumbo seems to be taking things a little far (especially with Carpenters late-round keeper value: he can be kept in the 7th round next year). I like Gyorko a ton, but I only picked him for 3B because I missed out on a few other targets. I'm not planning on using Carpenter at third; not enough power, so Gyorko will remain there unless I get my hands on Longoria.
