Which 12 to keep? (WHIR)

Postby BUCCOFAN » Fri Mar 14, 2014 9:51 am

15 team DEEP Auction Fantasy Points Keeper League. We start the following weekly (2-Catchers, 1-1B, 1-2B, 1-3B, 1-SS, 1-MI, 1-CI, 5-OF, 9-Pitchers, 6-Bench)
Players have 3 year contracts then return to the auction, OR can be protected as a Topper, meaning he would enter the auction but I have the right to match the offer after bidding ends, assuming its not to expensive and I have budget for him.

MY CURRENT KEEPERS: PLAYER/SALARY/CONTRACT YEAR (MAX 12)
C - Y.Grandal $5 (2) (being a 2 catcher league for 15 teams, I think I got to roll the dice here, big-time upside)
1B/OF - A.Craig $5 (3)
SS - H.Ramirez $23 (2)
3B - C.Headley $9 (3)
MI - J.Segura $1 (3)
OF - M.Trout $9 (3)
OF - A.McCutchen $30 (3)
OF - S.Marte $3 (3)
DH - V.Martinez $8 (3)
EMPTY SLOT
EMPTY SLOT
EMPTY SLOT
TOTAL SALARY = $93 ($260 budget)

OTHER KEEPER OPTIONS:
C - Y.Molina $topper$
C - M.Lucroy $topper$
1B - E.Hosmer $topper$
2B - J.Rutledge $3 (2)
P - AJ.Burnett $3 (3)
P - K.Medlen $1 (3) :~(
P - B.Beachy $1 (2) :-o
P - I.Nova $5 (2) (trade bait?)
P - H.Santiago $1 (2)
P - U.Jimenez $4 (2) (still leaning towards adding him into my empty slot above)
P - J.Grilli $9 (2) (ditto)

So I have 3 potentially 4 (if I don't keep Grandal) slots empty on my keeper list above, but one major problem arise when Medlen went down, as he was my STUD pitcher keeper @ $1, same goes for Beachy, so I think I am rather week going into the auction @ the pitcher department, and was wondering if anyone here would do the following trade? I really feel like I need a semi-ace in my arsenal before the auction starts. As it gets pretty ugly with the bidding starts. So would anyone do the following deal below, puts me @ about $120 heading into the auction with allot of STUDS locked up already.

I GET:
SP-J.Zimmermann $24 (2 years left at that salary) (I think $24 is market value for this budding stud, having a terrific spring)

I TRADE:

SP-I.Nova $5 (2) (2 years left at that salary)

If you really feel you need a semi-ace going into the auction, then this isn't a bad deal. It really equals out to $19 since Nova relieves you of $5. I have never been involved in an auction draft, so this is a little bit out of my depth, regardless though, Zimmerman is the better pitcher. It's not like you are giving up a big bat for him, it's all about the money. You seem to be in a good spot with the cap, so why not.

Thanks for the help on mine.

I would definitely do that trade. Zimmerman is a much, much better pitcher overall than Nova. Probably a 1.00 difference in ERA and a big difference in WHIP. Nova might get a lot of wins on that Yankee team but Zimmerman is a star and at 24 bucks is right about where he would go in the draft.

And I might think about keeping Hosmer over Victor Martinez.

please help

I would do the trade and keep Grilli and Santiago.
Any way to boot VMart, and get Hosmer back?

Surprised two of you are sour on Vmart? I think he is due for a monster season and with qualifying as a DH in my league (DH Has to qualify 20 games at the position) others will be struggling to find a DH for $8, of his production PLUS rumours he might get more action behind the dish again. I got to keep him.

I'm just worried being at $124 before the auction, but really not many other teams have stud keeps like I do in a 15 teamer.

I am thinking of keeping Hosmer but he is a topper, :-S

Just want to clarify everyone here knows I am talking about JORDAN ZIMMERMANN (STARTING PITCHER) correct? I see his auction values fluctuate around $17-$20, so I don't think I am overpaying at $24, that badly, there is always inflation for star players in a league my size.

Looking at making this deal........ }:-)

He would add to my list of keepers and sit at.
C - Y.Grandal $5 (2)
1B/OF - A.Craig $5 (3)
SS - H.Ramirez $23 (2)
3B - C.Headley $9 (3)
MI - J.Segura $1 (3)
OF - M.Trout $9 (3)
OF - A.McCutchen $30 (3)
OF - S.Marte $3 (3)
DH - V.Martinez $8 (3)
P - J.Zimmermann $24 (2)
P - J.Grilli $9 (2)
P - U.Jimenez $4 (2) OR AJ.Burnett $3 (3)
TOTAL SALARY = $130 ($260 budget, leaves me $130 for 1-Catcher, 1-2B, 1-CI, 2-OF, 1-UT, 6-Pitchers)

Thoughts? will help in return, leave a link

BUMP,

Think I'm gonna except it soon, just wondering does $130 remaining for 12 players work?

Feel like I am going to "pay" for a guy like Jordan Zimmermann anyways in the auction and really don't like my keeper options especially after losing Medlen and Beachy :,-(

Really my only two weak positions are C and 2B Spend there and I should be set, those positions aren't usually PRIME fantasy slots anyways :-?

If you feel comfortable with the $24 price tag on Zimmermann I would do it. I think he's a really solid #2 starter. A lot better than Nova that's for sure. I think you can put together 12 good picks with $130 budget. You just can't go blowing it all on expensive guys. Unless you want to do that and spend $1 on a 9 guys. :-b

I would spend on 2B, DH and some SP. I would like to get a strong #1 and another #2 because I don't really trust Burnett or Ubaldo. I could see those guys being WW fodder. Maybe 3B as well if someone is around that you don't have to blow the bank on.

help on mine?
