How is it not close?
Gordons projections are about the same as last years numbers.
Should be around 20 hrs 80 rbis.
Carpenter is in for a regression. Still good, but more like .290 90-100 runs.
Stat wise they are close. The only reason i might give Carpenter the edge, is a 4 round differnce.

Here's how its not close - Carpenter qualifies at 2B/3B and Gordon is an OF. A 20-80-90 OF is solid - a 10-75-90 2B is elite.

Stats are what matter. Position scarcity is way overrated.
You could make the case a 5 OF league, OF is more scarce then 2B.
Carpenter under this leagues settings, was $8 better last year.
But Carp isn't going to have those numbers again.
I bet Gordon beats him in hrs, sb, rbis, ops a push, only runs Carp might win.
Forget tags like elite and solid.
They have Gordon being $8 better in this setting this year.
I'm just saying it's very close. If the round was the same, i take Gordon.
Carp has a 4 round edge here, so that might favor him.

While i'm not saying take one over the other, what i'm saying is it's close, very close.

Average? :~(
roto rater had him the 23rd best OF last year, they project him 22nd this year
in a 12 team league, he's your 2nd OF

I don't get all the Gordon hate?

Hootie, I hear you man, don't understand why there is so much negativity around Gordon. If he can have anything close to his 2011 season (101/23/87/17/.878 OPS), then what would be well worth the 10th round selection. You might not like him in real life baseball, but in fantasy baseball, he's a valuable player. Especially, if you are in keeper leagues where the talent pool is shallow.

Regarding Razzball (which I am an avid reader of), I know that homeruns and SBs are completely at the hands of the hitter. Carps counting stats are dependent on the guys in front and behind him, but with that being said, the keeper round of 14 and having my 2B and MI spots filled by Carp and Miller, give me an opportunity to emphasize OF in the first 10 rounds.

My partner who helps run the team is completely against this trade, thinks the positional scarcity tilts it in favor of keeping Carp.

The argument really is the 4 round difference.
I don't buy the position scarcity argument.
In a 12 team league, 2B isn't terrible. I could name 12 2B at least, that will provide decent numbers.

How many of them can you draft after the 14th round?

That's why the 4 round difference slants to Carp.
