Setting Keeper Deadline ?

Postby orion619 » Sat Mar 08, 2014 9:22 am

Hi.......I'm a first time commish in a CBS keeper league and I was wondering what would be the "normal" date to set our keepers. This is my first keeper league and CBS wants us to set a date in which to lock in our keepers. Would it be at the beginning, middle or at the end of the season? thanks

I like to lock in keepers a week before the draft so everyone has some time to look over the rosters and develop a draft strategy

We haven't drafted yet, we're starting a new league. After the draft we have to set a date to claim our keepers for next season.

Don't sweat setting a hard keeper date now. As others said, the rule of thumb is {X} (usually 7) days before the draft next year.

That week before the draft is generally a good deadline.

If you want to make some offseason banter/action in waves can always do something like have people cut x players at end of season then another x, then final cuts before the draft.

Agree with the others above. We have a winter cut (right after the season, from 40 to 25), then we submit protected rosters a week or two before Opening Day (25 to 15). If you have guys that take the draft seriously, then you'll want to build in some time for preparation. Occasionally it will bite you in the a** - like when a team doesn't announce it's closer before your deadline or top prospects are iimbo - but generally speaking I think those deadlines are pretty standard.
