Fernandez for Stanton/Iwakuma (WHIR)

Postby CubanMissles » Sat Feb 22, 2014 4:51 pm

In a 12 team H2h dynasty points league, got offered the following trades

1- My JFernandez for his Stanton and Iwakuma

2- My JFernandez for his Heyward and Teheran or Cole

3- My Bailey for his Rizzo

Do I take any of these? I'm more drawn towards trade 2 because heyward's projections look to score more points according to my leagues scoring system. Then again Giancarlo has unreal power but can't stay healthy.

What do yall think?

Here is my roster...
C- Wilin Rosario
1B- Joey Votto
2B- Jason Kipnis
SS- Elvis Andrus
3B- David Wright
LF- Starling Marte
CF- Shin-Soo Choo
RF- Kole Calhoun
DH/UTIL- Carlos Gomez
BN- Napoli
BN- N. Franklin
BN- P. Alvarez
BN- Oscar Taveras
BN- Infante
BN- B. Moss

SP- Justin Masterson
SP- Homer Bailey
SP- Jeff Samardzija
SP- Jose Fernandez
SP- Danny Salazar
BN- Matt Garza
BN- Brandon Morrow
BN- Ervin Santana
BN- Hiroki Kuroda

It would depend on your points system. If you think Heyward is a better play with your settings then I think #2 is a nice option. I like either of those SPs and Heyward should produce as long as he's healthy.

Wow, can't really afford to lose Fernandez with your staff, definitely could use a RF upgrade, what's in FA first? You already have Napoli wasting on your bench so you don't even need Rizzo, though on value I like that move. Can Gomez play RF for you?

In many points leagues I have been in, they favor SP over hitting. Is this the case? If so, then I am not sure you can make these deals. The value is solid but your pitching will take a big hit. Deal #2 with Cole could end up being really good if Heyward can finally turn it around and Cole becomes the top 25 SP I think he can be.

If pitching doesn't dominate the points, I think I would take deal 2 with Cole.

It's certainly not as one-sided as most roto leagues I've been in. But for reference purposes...

The top 5 hitters last year averaged 515.5 points according to our system
The top 5 pitchers averaged 472.5 points.

So hitters are still favored but not by that large of margin.

It's the same owner on all 3 trades so I could try for stanton and cole for fernandez.

Or trade homer for heyward

Again though, any move leaves me a little short-handed in the pitching department, but pitching is much easier to find than bats.

As for your questions MadDog, the best available RF's are Aoki and Reddick. Aoki scores surprisingly high, so I could aim for him in the draft.

Gomez can only play CF, I'm hoping rios gets hurt for a week or 2 and choo plays RF for the rangers. Only takes 5 games to gain eligibility so that would be a big save. Or pray that Taveras breaks camp with the cards.

I don't see a move you need to make here.

Leaning towards offering Bailey for Heyward and leaving it at that. Get to keep my ace and get a RF with huge (although risky) upside.

What do yall think?

I'd consider the Bailey for Heyward option, but I think you're on the losing end by a narrow margin. Heyward is just greater risk.. I also don't think you need to make the deal.
