I was debating Cueto and CC. Then I remembered this is just a 5x5 and we count Ws in this league. So I went with CC.

With a career K/9 @ 7.03 and only having eclipsed 180 IPs 2/6 years in MLB I don't see how Cueto is the super duper awesome steal of a pick everyone is clamoring on about. I felt he went right about where he should've.

I'm not liking CC much either. Samardzija went a round lower than either CC or Cueto and he's a more rewarding proposition. That's probably the pick of this draft thus far.

I agree Shark is the better of the 3 arms but its all about the Ws. I just don't trust that Cubs lineup to do much again this year. 4-5 more Ws is worth what you're giving up in a few Ks and peripherals imo.

Wins are random, but the more 200+ IP pitchers you throw on, the better the chances that there will be wins. Samardzija doesn't have the kinds of red flags CC, Cueto, and CJ Wilson do (i.e. declining velocity, injury history). So, might as well invest in quality innings while you're at it.

%-6

I despise players with names I can't spell.

Meh Samardzija could give you 200 k's but his 200 innings won't help your ratio's one bit nor will playing for the Cubs give you much in the way of wins he's a true #200 maybe #190.

I watched the retro 70s porn star light up the gun outside the strike zone all year. Walks drive me crazy. If Matt Moore is your Ying than he's your Yang. There are better ways to build K's without whipping your ratios. Innings/W/K accumulate by being an active manager. I took my K/IP guys with my first 3 SPs so that I don't have to beg for a miracle year from a guy like Jeff the Backspaceman.

Well, Samardzija would be great as a #3, complementary to two aces who contribute well in all four categories. Pile on more K's without taking too much of a hit in ratios. Besides, I'd say his final ratios last year were byproducts of a bit of bad luck.

Hmmm... I checked the n00bs draft and he's a 14th rounder. In Masters, he went around past pick 120, which IMO is about right. He shouldn't be in the tier of Cole/Shields/Cain/Hamels/Cobb; he fits in the next tier of Wacha/Salazar/Tanaka.

I'd put him a little lower than Wacha/Salazar/Tanaka just because they have a higher ceiling. Shark just doesn't have a consistent track record. I'd put him with Lynn Cashner and Liriano,

Actually, when I saw that Samardzija pick, I just shrugged and said OK. Just leave me enough good bats because I took 3 pitchers within my first 8 picks again. :-b

I was speaking more to Headley than Cueto in regards to injury. He's been at the top of my list for 3 rounds but I've passed over him every time because it's too hard to say if he'll miss time or if he can stay healthy. That said, I drafted a guy who might not even make the opening day roster so there's that.

Pretty close to mine except for Dashiz who is near the bottom.

Where am I at? with my unconventional 2 pitchers and 2 catchers in my first 6 picks? :-o
