Keep Carpenter over McCutcheon???

Postby Emerald City Blues » Wed Feb 05, 2014 1:36 am

6x6 League (OBP). Start MI, CI, 5 OF.

Can only keep 3.

These are my top options. Goldschmidt is a lock, but the others, just not sure about. I absolutely LOVE McCutcheon and I'd like to go into the draft with a stud OF locked up, BUT, a $3 Carpenter at $10 Kipnis is a pretty big value. Who would be your other 2 and why?

Tough call. Shortages at both 2B/MI and OF.

Player / Pos / $ Cost / Years Remaining
Goldschmidt / 1B / $10 / 2
Carpenter / 2B / $3/ 3
Kipnis / 2B / $10 / 2
Donaldson / 3B / $10 / 3
Marte / OF/ $2 / 3
McCutcheon / OF / $26 / 2
16 team, roto 6x6

C-Castro
1B-Goldschmidt, Rizzo, Butler
2B-Kipnis, Prado
3B-Sandoval, Frazier
SS-Miller
OFs-McCutchen, Werth, Brown, Swisher, Span, Castellanos

Carp at $3 is great, but since I'd be keeping Kipnis I would keep Cutch instead here.

Goldy, Kip, Cutch is best imo

As much as I love McCutch, when you factor in the salary differences, it's really a no brainer to keep Carpenter at $3. Even more so when you factor in position scarcity.

I'd be tempted to consider three years of Marte at $2 over two years of Kipnis at $10.

I'm a huge McCutchen fan too but I think you have to go with Carp here. So, I'd say Goldy, Carp and Kipnis.

please help

Goldschmidt, Carpenter and McCutchen. $10 for Kipnis vs $26 for McCutchen...I go with the first round player and stop pinching pennies, esp with a middle infielder. Plus it is not a long stretch to go from Kipnis's 2013 season to his 2012 season where he hit 257 instead of 283 with the rest of his numbers being fairly similar. Big difference between him and McCutchen, $26 is a good price for Mccutchen and Carpenter is also 2b elig...no reasonnot to keep the best player here imo.

This. At some point you save all these pennies to spend on something. Why not just keep McCutchen, a top 5 guy, at a reasonable price. I can't be sure about you're league but I don't think in many standard auction leagues you would be able to get a top 5 player for $26? This makes McCutchen a good value. I keep Carpenter at $3 bucks and throw Kipnis back.

Goldschmidt, McCutcheon, Carpenter.

While everyone want best value for every dollar, the point is to put together a winning team and sometimes that means paying close to market for the right players.

You're already getting a great value for Goldy and Carp, so spend some money (reasonable, IMO) on McCutcheon. You'll start your core with two top-10 (maybe top-5) guys and Carpenter, all for an average cost of $13 each!

Take it!

Good luck.

Goldschmidt
Carpenter
Marte

Trade McCutchen, Donaldson, and Kipnis for some draft day dollars and prospects.

I realize this thread must be infuriating because everyone has different opinions, all of which I'm sure have gone through the original poster's head, but I'm gonna throw in my 2 cents.

When I look at keeper I not only look at value but at reliability.

I keep Goldy, Kipnis and McCutchen.

* Goldy is a no brainer
* Kipnis is a better 2bman and $10 is still a a great deal for him.
* Cutch is a top 5-10 overall fantasy player for $26? Yes please. The last 4 yrs since his rookie year he's earned, $27, $26, $40, $39. Plus you mentioned a shortage at OF

Other reasons I don't choose Carp (besides the fact that I like those 3 I mentioned more) are because he's hasn't proven his reliability yet AND he's moving to 3b. So yes this year he's a $3 bargain 2bman but next year he's potentially just a $3 bargain 3bman. Maybe you like him at 3b as well but you mentioned the MI shortage as I reason you liked him and that could be gone in 2015.
