Kevin Brown Win?

Postby cddyson » Wed Apr 07, 2004 7:02 pm

On Yahoo and on sportsline, Kevin Brown is shown as getting the win today. The final score was 3-2. When Brown left after 7, the score was 2-1 NY. The winning run was scored when Gordon was the pitcher of record, and Rivera came in and gave up the 2nd TB run in the 9th to get a trash save.

I thought the SP had to be the pitcher of record when the winning run is scored to receive the win. Am I worng on this?

the yankees never lost the lead after brown left the game so he gets credited with the win.

Once the SP leaves the game, the team hes pitching for must maintain the lead. So if the game is tied up, or the pitchers team falls behind, the SP receives a ND. Since the Yanks made it 3-1 and then the DRays only got back 1 run, Kevin Brown gets the win.

Great. It seems like baseball, even after watching it for 30 years, is the only sport that I ever learn new rules for.

Also, Rivera get the crappiest save of the year award so far. Not to worry, I'm sure Mesa or Benitez aren't far behind with some real stinkers.
