Albert Pujols opened at $3. Are we still required to open at $1?

I don't see why it would be a huge deal if a player didn't open at $1.

How about when everyone is left with $1 needing 1 player except you and one other guy have $3 for 1 player and he opens at $3 not giving you a chance to bid that player. :-°

That's how it works in a live auction. Why should that guy get to just steal your player since you have to open for $1, he bids $3, and it's over.

That's part of the strategy knowing who/when to nominate when money is short. Do I nominate now and lose my guy or do I nominate someone else with the chance that I get him for a buck or the other guy takes the guy I didn't want and I can safely take my guy on the next round. I've never been in an auction where you could start the bidding where ever you want (and I've been in hundreds).

Every single auction on Yahoo and ESPN allows you to start the bidding at whatever price you want. I'm not saying they are right, but I think it's safe to say that the majority of auctions allow you to pick your opening bid since 90% of leagues are on Yahoo/ESPN.

I agree you should be able to nominate a player at any price. There should be an advantage to nominating a player and having extra cash. It is still somewhat of a gamble to nominate a player higher than $1. You could be spending that cash on a player noone else really wanted which hurts you down the road.

It also keeps the auction moving. If you have $3, everyone else has $2, you should be able to just nominate for $3 and then the player is yours, no waiting for other bids then bidding again and so on.

IIRC, I brought this up during our first draft and it got shot down.

Request: can we submit the keepers already into the yahoo league so it will ensure that I don't accidentally nominate someone who is already kept?
