Double Auction/Snake League

Postby jed757 » Tue Jan 07, 2014 12:49 pm

Preamble and Object:
In a twist on the auction vs. snake-draft debate, this is a twin league featuring the same 12-15 owners. Owners will draft and command a team in each of two leagues – one drafted in snake fashion, one acquired in auction. The two leagues will operate separately but with the same functional rules. Each league will feature weekly lineups of 23 active players (14 batters, 9 pitchers), plus a reserve bench of 4 players. Each league will feature 5x5 Roto scoring, with the modification of the Saves category into a Saves+Holds category.

There will be a $100 total buy-in. Prize money will be split evenly between the two leagues, with the top three teams receiving payouts. Money will change hands via Leaguesafe.

The times on 3/22 and 3/29 are not set in stone, but I'd rather that they begin by mid-afternoon Eastern.

Key Dates
Snake draft, slow draft begins Tuesday March 11, 2014 (via Couchmanagers)
Snake draft, live draft begins and concludes Saturday March 22, 2014 (via ESPN)
Live auction occurs on Saturday March 29, 2014 (via ESPN)

Is this the first year for this double league?

How many confirmed teams are you up to?

Double Auction/Snake League

Yes, it is the first year. I had the idea early last season. I do, however, have several years experience as player and commissioner. I have made enough mistakes elsewhere to think that this can run pretty smoothly.

At a confirmed four. I hope for fifteen owners, will operate with as few as twelve.

I have experience with slow snakes, but not with slow auctions.

slow auctions are not as fun as a slow snake draft.

Maybe I missed it, but how does the slow and ESPN snake drafts co-exist? Are we drafting some of the snake slow and the rest later on ESPN?

Either way, I am definitely in. I was going to do the same thing with a NL only and AL only set up, but I'm a huge fan of 15 team mixed play. If we can fill this thing up to 15, I am in.

Weekly - check - league safe - check, roto, check - 15 team - hopefully.
