Keeper and trade thinking

Postby plamb23 » Thu Dec 26, 2013 2:02 pm

12 team, Roto 5x5, 15 keepers, finished 4th after winning in '12

Roster:

Bats---
Trout
Votto
McCutchen
Beltre
Freeman
Rosario
Murphy
Soriano
Machado
Profar
_________
Venable
Jeter

Arms---
Price
Hamels
Kimbrel
_______
Jansen
Reed

My 13 for sure keeps are listed above lines.

I'd like a better SS option, thinking about trading Machado, Freeman, and maybe Votto for upgrades in INF and SP?

I also would love to keep Reed and Jansen, but we all know how closers go

What are your thoughts on keeps/possible trades?

I'd keep Jansen for sure. Really hard to say on trades w/o knowing who you might be getting; I like the 3 you are considering moving and wouldn't be trading them just to fill a position. There will be pitching aplenty in the draft, see whats out there but you are in good shape roster-wise and won't have to make any deals. I'd hang on to Machado

I guess as far as trade targets was thinking Hanley or Tulo, maybe even trying for a low bid for a disappointing Castro

I would keep Jansen over Soriano for sure. I don't think I would run out and trade the guys you just mentioned for a SS, unless you're getting a top end SS.

Honestly, just target SS and SP early and often in your draft, and you should be in great shape. You have a nice young core of quality players.

Agree with the above, keep Jansen over Soriano or even Murphy. With Reed in ARZ, I think I would pass on keeping him. I really hope he will be fine but so far he has been a little up and down. Not sure what a new ballpark will do to him.

i wouldn't be trading Machado. He is a great piece to have in this kind of league. I could even see dealing Profar before Machado. Most of the top SS have had their own problems and are getting into that age where you wonder how long they can continue at this level. Maybe look at an Everth Cabrera or Castro if you can get them cheap.

Its hard for me to keep 3 closers in this league. I want to keep Jansen/Kimbrel but adding Reed without having a 2B or SS doesn't appeal to me.

Just double checking
You guys would drop Alfonso Soriano, Will Venable, and Daniel Murphy for A. Reed

No, no 1 one says keep Reed. Keep Jansen as #14. You could then keep Jeter as #15 and have SS & 2nd filled w/ Jeter & Murphy if its the Mets Murphy you are referring to. Or keep Venable and just draft a SS; nothing says you have to have all the positions filled before you start the draft or make trades pre-draft to fill them if it doesn't hurt your overall team strength. Make a play for Tulo or Hanley but your team looks good right now and you don't really need to make any drastic moves

I'd explore a deal for Hanley, but as mentioned, don't get crazy trying to acquire a SS. Maybe you could acquire Starlin Castro on the cheap also and take a flyer there.

Your final two keepers should be Jeter and Jansen. Though, I could see keeping Venable over Jeter if you were to acquire a better SS.

What do you guys think of trading Votto for E Cabrera and Danny Salazar

Not enough for Joey?
What do you think of Salazar?
