What to do with J-Up?

Postby CubanMissles » Thu Dec 19, 2013 6:23 pm

Alright, so I've been considering trading Justin Upton for some pitching and a fill-in RF until Taveras is in the majors. But I'm not quite sure how to view Upton. I feel his name is more than his game, yet he had two months last year where he carried my team. What do y'all think? And who should I aim for when looking for trades? SP? a different RF? anything? Or am I crazy and I should just sit still?

LEt me know what yall think! Thanks!

Here is my roster...
C- Wilin Rosario
1B- Paul Goldschmidt
2B- Jason Kipnis
3B- Ryan Zimmerman
SS- Hanley Ramirez
LF- Starling Marte
CF- Austin Jackson
RF- Justin Upton
DH- Billy Butler

BN- Moustakas
BN- Franklin
BN- Jennings
BN- Taveras

SP- Mat Latos
SP- Homer Bailey
SP- Jordan Zimmermann
SP- Jon Lester
SP- Ervin Santana
RP- Aroldis Chapman
BN- Kuroda
BN- Lincecum
BN- Niese
BN- T. Wood
BN- Miley

Worth looking to see what you can get for him though I think most smart fantasy owners are low on him right now. He has been an enigma for a few years now and I am pretty sure most fantasy baseball enthusiasts are aware of what he is. Most likely you are going to get low ball offers.

Personally, I think you should wait and start the season with him. Maybe he figures things out and starts hot. That would be the time to deal him.

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning towards doing. Just not getting the offers I'm wanting...or even close for that matter.

What do you do with Chapman? There's closers like Rosenthal and Uehara available, and I need SP/CF. The issue is I'm a reds fan and over-value Chapman. What level of SP should I aim for realistically?

Are you doing full dynasty or # of keepers? I would sit on Upton for now. When he was hot he's one of the best producers in the game. Then when he's cold you can't even start him. I had him in my roto league last year. He was great and ultra frustrating. Luckily for me he's just going to go back into the draft due to round rules for keepers.

I think both Chap and Upton should be held onto into the season. Then you can get the most bang for your buck if you are set on moving them.

It's basically a dynasty...keep 20 players per year unless an expansion then its 18 per team.

Appreciate the help guys, I think I'll just send out some over-reacher offers, see if anyone bites, and if not, I'll just keep em.

Like you said, J-Upton carried me for about 2 months last year n then killed me. And now that chapman is pretty much 100% stuck in the closer's role, hes just not that important anymore to me.

I like your team as is honestly. I might try to upgrade Jax/Jennings spot. I'd be happy with JUp and Marte as two of my 3 OF. I would try and acquire Adam Jones for CF and your set.

I wish I could get Adam Jones but theres no way that owner would ever do that. He'd probably want Goldy or Hanley.

I'd hold onto JUP for now too until he gets a hot streak and then look to move him. He has lower than normal value right now and I don't think trading him would be smart right now.

please help

Power wise I think Moose is close to Zimm. I might try ZImm+one of your CF for him you can try. :-)
