Trying to figure out my last couple keepers

Postby whoson1st0 » Thu Dec 19, 2013 3:59 pm

12 team, standard 5x5 cats, h2h + overall pts

I still have a long time before I need to choose my keepers, but this will affect who I can trade this offseason so I'd like to figure it out sooner rather than later.

We can have a max 10 keepers each year, so I am fast approaching my cap. I am also starting the year at $250 (down from $260) due to trades.

I have the following 6 players already under contract, so if I don't want them I need to trade them (or cut them for 50% of their salary). So most likely they are on my team for better or worse.

Rizzo $11
Rios $13
Encarnacion $11
Fister $11
Greinke $32
Dickey $15

This leaves 4 spots for:

Cano $28
Pedroia $29
Crawford $16
Jimenez $6
A Sanchez $9
Rosenthal $10
Wacha $6

I'm almost definitely signing Cano. For the others I'm leaning towards Sanchez, Rosenthal and Wacha.

I have an offer of $5 for Pedroia so if I choose to save money and not sign him I'll have some extra cash to fill my roster at the draft.

Another option is to try and see if I can trade Dickey's contract by offering some other cheap keepers such as jimenez and/or wacha.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are right in line with yours as for your final keepers.

A free $5? I wouldn't keep Pedroia anyway. Say thank you!

I would hate to be forced to move Wacha to get out from under Dickey's contract. I would be more willing to eat it and hope that he rebounds. If he gets off to a quick start I'd try to move him. You could try to dangle the pair and see what you get though. It never hurts to test the market. You could get someone that would drastically overpay.

$32 seems like a lot for Grienke too, but I think I could stomach that one.

Trade off Pedroia unless you think you can get a better offer from someone. Though I will say, I would at least look to see what someone might offer you for Cano. If you can get something better for Cano, I would really think about taking it. Those two 2B are pretty close in value that I would be fine going into next season with either one.

While also realize you want to lock down your keepers, I don't see anyone untouchable on your team. I would go out looking to make a trade and see what offers you get back.

In the end though, you have the right last four keepers and I wouldn't deal off Wacha just yet.

I'd keep Sanchez and Michael at those prices. I would also do the trade and keep Cano for one season then let him go.
