To Keep or To Trade??

Postby tinnman57 » Mon Dec 16, 2013 10:42 am

I'm in a keeper league with a limit of 10 keepers
I also happen to have the first pick in the draft this year
I know I need more offense and I'm not a big fan of keeping relief pitching so I'm trying to figure out who to keep and who to trade for more potential offense
My team is:

C-
1B- Michael Cuddyer
2B- Howie Kendrick
Neil Walker
3B- Chase Headley
Kyle Seager
SS- Stephen Drew
Derek Jeter
Francisco Lindor
Carlos Correa
OF- Alfonso Soriano
Carlos Gomez
Carlos Beltran
Hunter Pence
Will Venable

SP- Felix Hernandez
Homer Bailey
Matt Cain
Archie Bradley
Taijuan Walker
Jameson Taillon
RP- Grant Balfour
Casey Janssen

Please let me know what you think.

The problem is you aren't blessed with star hitters, your best should be complimentary not asked to carry the load. You might be better off trying to trade Beltran, Kendrick Balfour for some youth that other team might not keep but who could be good in '15 and beyond. You could keep T Walker in that thinking, I'd suggest long term thinking in both your trades and draft; unless this is a large league I just don't see the stars to be able to compete with the top teams for this year

What You Should Give Up:
I think dealing Soriano and/or Beltran would be a good move. I think Bradley is good trade bait for prospectaphiles. Balfour and Janssen I both see value in trading them.

What You Should Look For:
Posey maybe? Or a two for one deal with Soriano and Beltran for a McCutchen?

If you can get Chris Davis, of course get him. Don't know if anyone would give him up for the pieces you are dealing but it's worth a shot.

Do you sacrifice a draft pick for every keeper? For example, I'm in a football league where we keep a max of two players, but sacrifice our first two draft picks if we keep two players, one for one player and if we have no keepers, we get to draft in the first and second round.

Anyway, sounds like you've played in this league for a while and if you're "tired of ending up in last place" it's time to do something about it. If the above proves true, then you don't need to keep all 10 keepers. I would keep the young guys (Walker, Bradley, Pence, Cain, Felix) trade Beltran for a prospect and fill out the rest of your team with up-and-comers. It will take a few years, but I'll be worth it.

Look at mine?
