Thanks for the reply.

Keeper dynasty league. 2 starters at each position

Pitching wise I have:

Scherzer, wacha, Gerrit, Lester, Nova, Burnett, Cosart, Jose Fernandez, Porcello

I have no catching and Mauer gets to keep his catchers status in my league next year. I'm light in the OF.

I have:

Crisp, Springer (hopeful starter), Grossman, Nelson Cruz, Rasmus, Marisnick, Revere, Lagares

Feels like you are trading away one of your best young players for a band aid. With Mauer, you are going to run into a similar problem at catcher next year. I think I would pass. After the season that Stanton had and the season Fernandez had, I think you are getting the lighter end of the stick here.

So is it crazy to just break it down to player for player. Fernandez for Stanton and belt for mauer. I think everyone would agree mauer over belt although belt was heating up second half of last year and may be finding his stride. So what about Stanton for Fernandez??

I prefer the Stanton side. Bats are more prediciable. If Stanton breaks out that side wins the trade w/o question. While Fernandez should be great he still is pitching for the Marlins ans he is still only a second year player.

I think that it makes sense for 2014, but it's closer than people may think. Belt really emerged in the 2nd half last season. Once Mauer loses catcher is he really going to be a better option than Belt? If you're going for it this season then pull the trigger. Long term, I think that you lose this. It's a classic kind of trade in that regard.

Belt & Mauer are non factors. Belt is waiver wire fodder and with Mauer possibly losing C eligibility in a year or two his value will take a big drop. But for 2014 Mauer has more value than Belt.

It comes down to Stanton for Fernandez. Understandably people are selling Stanton low based on his rough year last season. But the guy is a legit 35 to 40 HR power source. One of the best young sluggers in baseball.

There's WAY more pitching available than there is power. But the biggest thing for me is how frail pitchers are. Especially young SPs. Who knows if Fernandez is anything more than a flash in the pan and will never come close to the numbers of last year.

Take the elite power bat every day over the hotshot young SP.

I disagree with this statement. I have him ranked 12th in my 1B rankings (removing Posey & Santana). Belt possesses one of the best line drive rates over the past two seasons & started to hit more balls in the air in 2013. I think that he can get to 20 homers this season. Not bad for a guy that can potentially hit 0.300 and steal double digit bags at your 1B spot. I would gladly add him as my CI.
