Keepers Next Year - 2014 - 5x5 Roto

Postby themaestro » Mon Dec 09, 2013 2:47 pm

Hello,

I'm fairly new to this board and would like your input re: who to keep for my 3 player keeper league next year. It's an auction league ($260 budget), standard 5x5 categories Roto, and we get to keep any 3 players every season. However, the price per keeper goes up $5 from the previous year they were kept at or drafted

I'm already keeping Puig for $5. These are my options for the next 2 keeper slots:

Hanley Ramirez, SS: was sold in our auction for $18 so I can keep him for $23
Xander Bogaerts, SS: picked up as free agent, cost would be $5 next year
Max Scherzer, SP: bought for $14, can be kept for $19
Michael Wacha, SP: picked up as free agent, can be kept for $5

Thanks!!

Wacha Flocka Flame and HanRam. That's good value for HanRam compared to what he would probably go for in the auction and Wacha looked like an ace in the postseason this year. I think this is a pretty easy choice. Bogey and Maxamillion are good in terms of value, but just not as much of a steal as Wacha Flocka Flame and HanRam.

Hanley, Scherzer, and Puig. You are getting all 3 below what they will go for in drafts. If you want Wacha, you can just get him for a few dollars more in the draft. It would cost you more for Scherzer in the draft. Wacha will probably be going somewhere around the middle of drafts.

I understand what you are saying with Maxamillion. Overall I think the his and Wacha Flocka's numbers will be almost equivalent at the end of this year. But getting him at good value and then getting Wacha at a steal would be great, but I think the market on First Name Michael Last Name Wacha is higher than you think so that's why I think $5 for Wacha is a better deal.

I will always go for the proven talent at a discounted price than someone who hasn't done it before. I think a lot of people believe Wacha will be the Matt Harvey for 2014 but Harvey was a more developed pitcher. Wacha is really a two pitch pitcher right now and Harvey entered his second season with more developed secondary stuff.

If (Projected Price - Keeper Price) > (Projected Price - Keeper Price) then keep else keep the other.

There is a lot of potential next season along with Wacha including guys like Gray, Salazar, Cingrani, Wood, Wheeler and a bunch of other guys so if I were in the OP's situation, I would probably keep Scherzer.
