I love the Freese for Bourjos move, as Freese has been nothing more than a one year post season guy. Nothing last year. These two moves will help their offense quit-a-bit IMO.

Giving a steroids violator with declining defensive skills a four year deal is a "great move"?

Versus giving up one of their young quality SP's? Hell yeah it is a great deal. They have no options other than a trade that would require one of their pitchers based on news reports. This whole PED/biogenesis thing is blown a bit out of whack IMO. If you don't think he is better than what they ran with in 2013 then we are on completely different pages. They were able to get a starting SS without giving up anything but cash. They also have the flexibility of moving him to 2nd/3rd base in a couple of years. Very very good signing, based on what it will cost them.

this is what razzball.com has to project for Bourjos.
For 2014, I’ll give him the line of 74/12/58/.263/20 with a chance for much more.

he also added this.
If he put together a 15-homer, 35-steal season, I wouldn’t be shocked.

I think the projection is safe, and there is potential for more.

They don't seem to be lacking for options at 2nd/3rd base and if all of their pitching prospects pan out, they'll likely need to trade a SP anyway.

I'd rather have the pitching depth. Cards had a lot of money come off the books. 4 years is probably too long but they get what they need now without weakening the farm system at all. And they have been trying to trade of a SS for the last 6 months. It seems like if there was a trade to be made it would have already gone down.

Feinsand, in a second tweet, isn't surprised Peralta was able to net such a lucrative deal despite being suspended 50 games for his involvement in the Biogenesis affair citing the two-year, $16MM pact the Blue Jays gave Melky Cabrera last offseason after his 50-game PED suspension in 2012.

Diamondbacks reliever (and union representative) Brad Ziegler was critical of rewarding a player suspended for PED use with such a contract. "It pays to cheat...Thanks, owners, for encouraging PED use. People really don't understand how this works. We thought 50 games would be a deterrent. Obviously it's not. So we are working on it again."

How has the Melky Cabrera deal worked out for Toronto so far?

It doesn't matter how it's worked out for them. It's how it worked out for him. He's getting $16 million regardless (even though it's significantly less than he was projected to earn prior to his suspension).
